At COP30 in Belém in November 2025, the Ministerial Declaration Towards Resilient and Low-Emissions Transport Systems for People, Development and the Planet was signed by 11 countries, committing to a 25% reduction in transport energy demand by 2035, with at least one third sourced from renewables and sustainable biofuels.

Six months later at the International Transport Forum (ITF) Summit in Leipzig, the coalition shifted from commitment to plan. The Dominican Republic assumed the co-presidency and presented the coalition's work plan for the transport transition through 2027. Ethiopia's contribution stood out, having already banned fossil fuel vehicle imports and put over 140,000 electric vehicles on its roads. The coalition proves a powerful signal that strong commitments, backed by concrete action, can deliver real results.

Cycling is more than just a mode of transport but also a pathway to independence, health, opportunity, and sustainable mobility. Through confidence-building programs, more people can discover the freedom and joy of cycling safely and comfortably. This year we are celebrating World Bicycle Day together with the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative by focusing on something simple but powerful: building people’s confidence to ride a bike.

Marking its tenth anniversary since launching at COP21 in Paris, the MobiliseYourCity Partnership has grown into a global network spanning over 80 cities across nearly 40 countries. Over the decade, the Partnership has supported 32 Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) and 9 National Urban Mobility Policies and Investment Programmes (NUMPs), mobilising €62.1 million in grants and leveraging €2.3 billion in financing for implementation.

Beyond the numbers, the MobiliseYourCity Partnership's deeper impact lies in strengthening institutional capacity. It has equipped transport authorities with the data systems, coordination tools, and project-preparation skills needed to sustain reform beyond individual project cycles. Looking ahead, MobiliseYourCity enters its second decade with a broader network, more tested methodologies, and growing evidence that sustainable urban mobility transitions in the Global South are not only necessary, but achievable.

The anniversary event is scheduled on 01 October, 2026 in Brussels within the Connecting Europe Days event.

Across eight editions since 2017, Transport and Climate Change Week has grown to engage up to 1,500 online participants and over 200 in-person partners in its efforts to advance net-zero transport transitions across the Global South. It has evolved from a niche gathering into a globally recognised forum for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and professional networking. This year's 9th edition takes that foundation a step further. Under the theme Partnering for Action, the conference will bring together researchers, innovators, investors, and practitioners to accelerate collaborative solutions and reinforce the global alliances essential to decarbonising transport.
